CHAPTER 13
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q. Must I have an earth ground for the System 2?
A. Yes. A good earth ground is essential for proper operation because it provides a path around the
System 2 for unwanted electrical noise and spikes from electrical storms. The ground must
adhere to National Electrical Code guidelines.
Q. Is there a way to activate both of the relays with my alarm panel or with a manual button
in an emergency?
A. When 12VDC is applied to Terminal #4 (+) and Terminal #5 (-) on the System 2, the closed
circuit contacts of the main door relays will open until the voltage is removed.
Q. Can I put more than one RTE device on a single RTE input?
A Yes, you can put several Normally Open devices on the same input (Example: PIR with a backup
manual RTE button and an additional button at a person’s desk so they can “Buzz” someone in).
Q. Can I use any brand modem with the System 2?
A. In theory, all modems that support a 2400 or 9600 baud rate should work. However, Corby
Industries will technically support only those modems that have been approved - currently the
US Robotics 14,400, 28,800, and 33,600 Sportster fax modems with external DIP switches.
Q. Can I use any terminal with the System 2?
A. The System 2 requires a terminal or PC with a terminal emulator which is compliant with the
VT100 ANSI standard. We recommend and support Wyse Terminals, models 185 and 55.
Q. Can I assign names to users through the onboard keypad and LCD display?
A. No. The onboard keypad does not support alpha characters. You will need the System 2 RS-232
option and a terminal or PC to add names to users.
Q. Will the System 2 power my locks, PIRs, and other externals?
A. No. The System 2 will not power any locking devices or other products. You will need to add an
external power supply with adequate current capacity for those devices.
